What’s new in Wialon Hosting
January 31, 2023

Redesigned buttons for tabs on several pages
We keep making Wialon UI more state-of-the-art and unified. This time, we unified the look of switches in the workspace for the pages "Units," "Drivers," "Trailers," "Passengers," and "Geofences." Thus, working with panels will provide the same user experience on all the pages.

Tools on the map
Wialon has a set of tools related to the map. They were located on the top bar, so users used to forget about them or didn’t even know they existed. We have moved all these tools directly to the map. In addition, we improved the look of the buttons that had already been on the map.

(De)activated units in the CMS log
From now on, users can quickly check in the CMS log various actions upon units. In particular, in a new line, users can see the names of units that have been activated or deactivated.

Imported messages
To make the work with the imported messages more convenient, we defined them as a separate message type in the drop-down filter in the “Messages” tab. So now you can quickly delete all the faulty messages after selecting them with one click.

Smooth movement of units on the map
We have worked on how moving vehicles look on the map. Previously, the unit movement was often jumping. We have made it smoother. This update has also been implemented for mini-windows.

The region parameter for Google maps
Great news for Google maps users — Wialon now supports the region parameter for these maps. It means that from now on, addresses obtained from Google Maps will become more accurate.

February 21, 2023

Updated search in the Routing tool
We’ve added the ability to use the unit location, geofence, or coordinates as route points. Previously, when planning a route, it was possible to search for points only by the address.

Error processing for third-party maps
We’ve arranged the processing of third-party map errors that may occur during the route building.

Language in Google geocoding
Previously, when using geocoding in the Address tool and other tools, the address was always in English. The language of the tools will now correspond to the user's language.

Highlighting problematic notifications
There are situations when notifications are sent an uncountable number of times for a huge number of units during a short period. It overloads the system and can cause the malfunction of other notifications. This issue can be solved by setting adjustments. To help the user immediately see problematic notifications, they will be highlighted in color and raised to the top of the list. An information window will also appear with a message about the issue.

Timer for Locator links
We created a link timer for the Locator page. Now, when sending a link that will start working in the future, there will appear a timer with the time when the link becomes active.

End time in marker tooltips
We complemented the parking, stop, start and end position marker tooltips with the end time of the event information. For example, you can instantly understand when the car left the parking lot and headed to the client.

Adding unit groups to automatic assignment lists for drivers and trailers
Now, you can create the automatic assignment list of drivers and trailers from unit groups. Thus, when creating a unit, you can add it to a group and quickly implement it into the work scheme if unit groups are used in the system configuration.

Tooltips for the Add Tab button in CMS
We keep improving the user experience in Wialon. Now, when you hover over the Add Tab button in CMS, a tooltip with the text "Add Tab" will appear. You can add five tabs. If you've already added all of them, you’ll see the tooltip "You can add no more than five tabs."

Sorting video files by columns in CMS
We added sorting by columns for the video tab to make its design similar to other CMS tabs. Now you can sort any column (except for buying packages) in ascending or descending order. It will allow you to quickly find the information you need, for example, sort the unit list by the number of purchased traffic packages and see which units will soon run out of traffic or storage.

Search in unit properties
We’ve added search for unit properties in the following tabs: Sensors, Eco Driving, Service Intervals, Custom Fields, and Commands. Now, it will be easier to find the required information in the various properties tabs.

Validation and tooltips for input fields in Map Management
We started a large-scale work to improve the user experience when filling out various forms. We’ve developed a new validation logic for input fields and unified the appearance of tooltips that pop up when invalid values are entered. We applied these changes to the form in the Map Management section in the CMS that appears when you click on the "Add a map" button or when you edit the previously added maps by clicking on a row in the table. Now, you can quickly fill out all the fields correctly and submit the form.

Error tooltips in the form fields of the Routing tool
We continue to make filling in the forms in Wialon faster and more convenient. This time, we applied a new validation logic for filling in all the fields in the Routing tool windows. Thus, it will be easier for users to complete the forms required for working with routes.

Clickable coordinates
Now, users can immediately go to the map provider’s page by clicking on the coordinates in the unit tooltip, in the window with the extended information about the unit, in the point tooltip when tracing the graph on the Messages and Reports tabs, or when tracing the track.

What’s new in Wialon
April 4, 2023

New password requirements
To improve data security, we have developed new requirements for user passwords. Now, the password must contain at least 8 characters, at least 1 special character, uppercase and lowercase letters, and must not completely match the username and the previous password. We also added the ability to view entered passwords in the forms where you create or change user passwords.

Vehicle VIN codes in the unit properties
Some GPS devices send the vehicle's VIN code to Wialon. Now, when filling in the unit properties, the user will see a tooltip that the system has automatically determined the VIN of the device. The suggested option can be accepted or rejected in the Profile tab or by clicking on
"Check VIN."

New login page for Wialon Hosting
Attention: so far, these changes are relevant to hosting.wialon.com, hosting.wialon.eu, hosting.wialon.us and other regional Wialon DNS.
All users start getting acquainted with Wialon from the login page, and this is when the first impression of the platform is formed. That's why we've done a massive redesign of the login page to make it look more up-to-the-date and pleasing to the eye. Now, the login form consists of two parts: a picture and fields with buttons necessary for authorization. When a user enters the page, a random picture from five pictures is selected.
We’ve also improved navigation via the Tab button, adapted the page to different screen resolutions, and added a timer to the button intended to resend the link for the two-factor authentication.
We’ve also changed the animation that appears on the screen after clicking on the login button so that it also matches the new page style.
The changes affected only the UI of the page elements, without affecting the functionality.

Color scheme migration for the new login page
As we’ve redesigned the Wialon login page, the migration of color schemes has also been carried out for it. In particular, we ensured the correspondence between the old and the new color schemes and also styled the page for the latter. You can select the color scheme in the user settings. The currently available options include light, gray, default (updated login page), and default (old login page).

Improved route visibility on the map in the Routing tool
In March, we also worked on the rendering of the main and alternative routes in the Routing tool. Now, the routes are better distinguishable on different maps.

Creating an unlimited Locator link via a notification
Now, in addition to the manual method, you can also create a Locator link that doesn’t expire via a notification by entering “0” in the notification tag. If you enter an invalid value, the link expiration time will be set to 60 minutes by default.

Bug fixes for vector maps
We’ve fixed several vector map errors as some of the elements had been displayed incorrectly. Now, the borders of buildings, rivers, roads, and parks are clearly visible just like on raster maps. On top of that, we added the display of the US state names.

Filling in the forms on the Trailers tab
We keep making filling in various forms in Wialon easier. This time, we introduced the new validation logic to the fields in the "Add trailer" and "Trailer properties" forms. Now, users can spot the incorrectly filled fields, fix them, and submit the form faster.

What’s new in Wialon
April 18, 2023

Device names in the drop-down list of the “Device type” field
Previously, the most frequently used device names were located in a row on the right side of the unit creation window. We have moved them to the drop-down list of the "Device type" field. Now, the search and selection of the frequently used device types are in one place, which allows users to enter data in the unit creation window more easily.

New field validation logic for several forms
We proceed with the large-scale renovation that will allow improving the user experience when filling in various forms in Wialon. This time, we implemented the new validation logic for the fields in the forms for creating and editing the Driver, Passenger, and Trailer sections as well as for creating and editing groups in these sections. This update also affected the forms in the geofence groups tab, the notification creation window, and a custom column in the properties of the table required for building a report template.

The goal of this update is to unify the system behavior when processing errors associated with incorrect data entry. Thus, Wialon will act in the same and understandable way for users, no matter what section of the platform they are in.

Unit groups in the Video tab
We’ve added grouping by units in the video module. Now, the user will be able to switch to the group monitoring mode by clicking on the corresponding button in the Live stream and Files tabs. The unit groups list can be opened by clicking on the checkbox to the left of its name.

Video loading statuses
After clicking on the playback icon in the Live stream or Playback tabs, the loading of the recording or live stream starts. This process can be quite lengthy. Now, throughout this time, the system will inform you of the loading status. Thus, the user will have no doubts that everything works correctly and that the recording or live stream actually are being loaded.

Generating links to routes in the Routing tool
We added the ability to generate a link to the route via the Routing tool. Now, it has become possible to copy the link and send it, for example, to the driver, or any other employee. This feature is available when using Google Maps and Gurtam Maps as routing sources, and the link always leads to Google Maps.

Please note that the route built in Wialon may differ from the route available through the link due to some limitations of the link generation service and the impossibility of sending all the parameters.

Specifying a reason when deleting a unit
We’ve added the option to specify the reason when deleting units in CMS. You can select the reason from the list of predetermined ones or describe it yourself. This update will help you avoid accidental deletion of units, and we will collect information allowing us to eliminate potential problems and improve the quality of the product.

Track playback for saved video files
We have introduced a new Map widget in the Files and Playback tabs. With this feature, you can play the track of the moving unit on the map while watching saved video from the cameras. Now users can effortlessly determine the unit's location at any given moment during the file analysis.

Upgraded table of deleted objects and new criteria for searching in the Trash
Searching the Trash in CMS has become more convenient as we’ve added new columns to the table of deleted objects. Now you can easily find an object by its account name, unique ID, phone number, or object type. If an object has multiple phone numbers or unique IDs, the search results will display them separated by commas in the respective columns of the table.

Updated search in the Batch editing of accounts tool
Previously, the filter drop-down list in CMS contained the "Account" criterion, which has now been replaced with "Parent account." This change allows users to quickly locate all subordinate accounts associated with a specified parent account and perform necessary actions, such as assigning a different billing plan or topping up the balance.

June 13, 2023

Ability to view the entered password on the CMS login page
Recently, we have introduced a new feature that allows users to view the entered password when logging into their Wialon account. This functionality is now also available on the CMS login page as well. To check the accuracy of the entered password, simply click on the eye icon. By default, the password is hidden, and dots are shown instead.

Enhanced validation logic for filling in forms
We are continuing our work on implementing a unified approach to error visualization and handling of incorrectly entered data, aiming to make the system's behavior consistent and predictable across all sections.

In this update, we have refined the validation logic for all fields in the forms used for creating and editing unit groups, as well as the fields on the General tab in unit properties. Additionally, we have standardized the validation for custom fields in all Wialon forms. As a result, the system now responds uniformly whenever a user inputs invalid data or leaves mandatory fields empty in these forms.

New validation logic for the forms in the Video section
We are continuously working on unifying the validation logic for all fields throughout the system. In this update, we’ve improved the playback saving forms in the Video section. As a reminder, there are two ways to save the required excerpt of a playback as a file: by utilizing the Scissors icon while in playback mode or by selecting the Save requested file to Files option. Moving forward, if any fields are filled incorrectly, the system's behavior will remain consistent across both forms.

Search by unit deletion reason in the Trash
In one of the recent updates to Wialon, we added the ability to specify a reason when deleting units in CMS. This enhancement enables users with access to the Trash to see why a particular unit was deleted. We have now implemented a feature that allows searching based on this criterion. By selecting the reason from the dropdown list, the system will display all the units deleted for the specified reason.

July 11, 2023

Alternative speed source options
We have introduced a feature that enables the retrieval of speed data from alternative sources. If desired, users can select a specific parameter whose values will be utilized to determine the speed. For instance, they can effectively utilize the speed value derived from the CAN bus.

Please note that this option is currently not available for all types of devices. The list of these devices will expand in the future.

CO2 emissions data and reports
The volume of carbon dioxide emissions is a common indicator for assessing eco driving. The average CO2 emissions value is now available on the Profile tab in the unit's properties. Besides, the emissions volume calculated based on the trip mileage is available in reports for the unit, unit group, driver, and driver group.

Ability to select cameras for notifications
Now users can select the cameras when configuring notifications with the Save video as a file action. Previously, videos were excerpted from all cameras simultaneously, resulting in higher network traffic usage and occupying more storage space. With this enhancement, users can now optimize network usage by selecting the necessary camera for saving the video.

Trash section updates: search by the object deleter and hints for object restoration errors
We continue to enhance the user experience in the Trash section. In this update, we have added the Object deleter column to the table of deleted objects, enabling users to easily identify who deleted a specific object without requesting technical support.

Furthermore, we have improved the error descriptions that appear when attempting to restore a deleted object. Users will now receive more informative error messages, highlighting the cause of the restoration failure: for example, if there is another object with an identical phone number.

July 25, 2023

New columns in the Eco driving report table
The Eco driving report table, used for reports on units and drivers, now has two new columns: Violation mileage and Violation duration. These columns display information on the mileage during the violation episode and the duration of each violation episode, respectively. Previously, this data was shown when viewing the report with the Detalization option enabled. Now, it is conveniently integrated into the table itself, providing users with a more precise analysis of driving behavior.
When utilizing grouping or adding the Total line to the table, the new columns display data on violations within the specified time interval.

Map widget update for the Files and Playback tabs
We have introduced new functionalities to the Map widget, that allows to play the track of the moving unit on the map while watching saved video from cameras. Now, the widget has icons for building a track, playing/pausing it, watching camera footage and other actions.
Moreover, users can now access detailed information about the unit at various points of its track, which proves particularly valuable for analyzing critical situations. When hovering over a unit or its track, a point tooltip will appear, displaying the sensor values at a specific moment in time.

Improved user interface for the Locator dialog
As part of the update, we have made several significant changes to enhance the user interface of the Locator dialog, aiming to provide a smoother experience while working with the tool. We have optimized the utilization of space within the dialog window and improved the display of unit link names and descriptions, making them more readable and user-friendly.

What's new in Wialon
August 10, 2023

Improved functionality for off-time notifications
We have enhanced the data processing algorithm for notifications used to monitor the vehicle off time. The maximum off time value is now set to 30 days. Furthermore, we’ve made interface refinements and implemented new field validation logic ensuring that users will receive error messages if they enter incorrect data.

New line colors in the Messages tab
We’ve introduced a refreshed color scheme for lines in the Messages tab designed to enhance visual perception and improve usability. Specifically, we have intensified the background color of alarm messages making them more noticeable. User-selected messages now stand out with a darker and more contrasting background facilitating differentiation from other messages. These updates have also been extended to tables in reports.
Additionally, we’ve implemented visual highlighting for messages when users switch to the Messages tab from other tabs.

Enhanced color indication for online notifications
The online notifications, including those on the minimaps, now have better color indication. With this update, we’ve revamped both the notification itself and its background. Previously, the notification line's background was colored, and it would change to a lighter shade after the message was read. Now, the indicator on the left side of the line displays the selected notification color from the settings. The background color reflects the notification status: unread messages will have a light blue background, while read messages appear with a white background.

Watching live streams on the Monitoring tab
Users can now view live streams from vehicle cameras directly on the Monitoring tab. This feature allows them to access comprehensive information about the vehicle in one place, including its movement on the map and sensor values. Additionally, users can now effortlessly watch live streams from multiple vehicles simultaneously in different windows. To open the video mode, simply click on the corresponding icon in the unit list. It's important to note that to work with video on the Monitoring tab, users must meet the same requirements as for working with the Video tab.

Tooltips for Driver, Trailer, and Passenger activity notifications
Notifications of these types can be created for multiple drivers, trailers, and passengers simultaneously. To do this, the user simply needs to enter several codes or code masks separated by commas without spaces. To remind about this option, we’ve added a corresponding tooltip in the notification creation window.

Information about activated and deactivated units
We’ve introduced the capability to monitor the dynamics of added and deleted units within a specific period in the CMS. This information is now conveniently presented in the form of a graph in the Units section of the Dashboard.

September 6, 2023

New 10-point system for rating the quality of driving
We've replaced the 6-point rating system used in the Eco driving reports with a more user-friendly 10-point system. The underlying mathematical formula for converting penalty points into scores has remained unchanged.

List of available parameters for speed determination
Recently we’ve added the capability to use alternative speed sources across the system. To simplify the selection process and minimize the risk of inputting incorrect values, we've introduced a dropdown list of speed parameters available for the device. The list is dynamic and specific to each unit.
This update doesn't exclude the possibility of manual input — users can still enter the required parameter themselves.

Nanosecond support in reports and charts
Charts on the Messages tab and reports can now display event times with precision down to the nanosecond. This level of detail is especially beneficial for incident analysis.
The nanosecond timing is applied when the tracker sends messages in this format.

Refined color indication for online notifications
In early August, we changed the color scheme for online notifications. As part of the current update, we've introduced several adjustments to make the new design more user-friendly.
Notably, the color indicator on the notification row has become bigger and thus easier to see. The row background aligns with the indicator color, but is more transparent. Furthermore, unread notifications are now marked with a plain blue dot, rather than a background color.

September 19, 2023

Refreshed look of the work list on the Monitoring tab
We've started to redesign the work list of units and unit groups on the Monitoring tab to enhance the overall user experience, making it smoother and more intuitive. This redesign will be implemented gradually, in several stages. In this update, we've refreshed the visual styles of the work list elements giving them a more contemporary look.
It's important to note that these changes focus solely on the interface. All existing settings for displaying monitoring options for the list elements continue to function exactly as they did before.

Restoring drivers, passengers, trailers, and their assignments
Users can now independently restore deleted drivers, passengers, and trailers, along with their assignment history, without the need to request  technical support. This feature comes in particularly handy when the user needs to recover lost data due to accidental deletion or the incorrect use of the Replace import type when existing data is completely removed and replaced with the new one.

Exporting data from the Trash in .xlsx format
Recently, we've been expanding the data range displayed in the table of deleted objects making it more insightful and useful. And now, all this information can be effortlessly exported in .xlsx format in just a few clicks. Thanks to this enhancement, Wialon partners can easily and conveniently share the data with users who don't have access to the Trash.

Ability to configure the fractional sensor values
We've introduced an improvement that offers flexibility in choosing how fractional sensor values are displayed in messages, reports, tooltips, and other sections of the system. Users now have the option to select between displaying decimal fractions or rounding the values. This feature applies to sensors within the Mileage, Gauges, Engine, and Fuel groups, as well as to custom sensors.

February 13, 2024

Marking false fuel fillings and drains
Users can now mark fuel fillings and drains as false events. This feature proves helpful in scenarios where the system mistakenly logs fuel fillings and drains. For instance, if a vehicle is on a slope, the fuel level sensor might detect a sudden change.
False events will be labeled on maps, charts, and tracks with a special icon, and the associated data won't be used in calculating fuel-related metrics. This way, users will get even more precise fuel reports.

Improved interface for viewing media files
We've revamped the interface for viewing media files, giving it a modern look and standardizing the design across different system elements.
To enhance user experience, we've also relocated key file details (the unit sending the file, date and time, and precise unit location at the time of image or video transmission) along with the button panel for interacting with the asset — now these elements are conveniently grouped in one place.

Muting/unmuting video sound
We've introduced the option to mute/unmute video sound, including while viewing videos from messages, tracks, and reports.
Users can activate sound from a specific camera to get a deeper understanding of the event or mute the sound if it's irrelevant for analysis. Importantly, adjusting sound settings in Wialon will not affect browser sound settings.

Auto-addition of units to the work list
We’ve introduced the automatic addition of new units to the work list, simplifying the process for users. When this option is enabled, there’s no need to take any extra steps — new units will be added to the list as soon as they appear.
This functionality is available to all users, regardless of the number of units. For users with fewer than 20 units, the feature is activated by default. Users with over 20 units need to enable auto-addition themselves — instructions on how to do it are provided in the system tooltip.
Please note that once the auto-addition is enabled, manual addition of units, list modification, or removal of units becomes unavailable.

Video quality selection
Users now have the ability to select the quality of video recordings or live streams. Standard quality is set as the default to minimize data usage. However, if users need to examine all the details for a more thorough event analysis, they can switch to viewing videos in higher resolution.
