Turning off compression when sending a report via a notification

Тема: Turning off compression when sending a report via a notification

Is it possible in Wialon Hosting to be able to turn off report compression? The check box is greyed out. I have a need to be able to do this as the report is going to a smartphone and there is a difficulty in dealing with the zip file.

Turning off compression when sending a report via a notification

Re: Turning off compression when sending a report via a notification

To correct and successful dispatch  the report file should be compressed. That is why option "Compress report file"  is always enable and cannot be unchecked (regardless attach map or not)
It can be disabled if you will export it using SDK
On the following link you can find direct information about export procedure via SDK: http://sdk.wialon.com/wiki/en/sidebar/r … ort_result  . There is a parameter "compress" that need to have value = 0.

Turning off compression when sending a report via a notification

Re: Turning off compression when sending a report via a notification

In Pro we can uncheck the box.

Are you saying that we have to export the report and then resend it to the customer ?

Turning off compression when sending a report via a notification

Re: Turning off compression when sending a report via a notification

If you use automatically method (notification or jobs)  to send reports through the system  from Wialon Hosting, file should be compressed (some of them can have a quite big size) to successful dispatch
You can do it manually : first export the executed report from report panel and then send it by e-mail
or develop such way through SDK

Turning off compression when sending a report via a notification

Re: Turning off compression when sending a report via a notification

We need to come up with something using the SDK as reports go out 24/7 and a manual solution will not work.

Turning off compression when sending a report via a notification

Re: Turning off compression when sending a report via a notification

we also would like to have compression disabled (if send only for one unit). I know there is a huge traffic problem, but there is not only one customer complying for always unpacking reports...

Turning off compression when sending a report via a notification

Re: Turning off compression when sending a report via a notification

Without compression there is a huge chance that you won't receive any data, cause usual limit on mail servers is up to 10MB of attachments possible in e-mail.

Turning off compression when sending a report via a notification

Re: Turning off compression when sending a report via a notification

The general reports that would be sent would I think be less far less than 10MB. Our situation is that we have a customer that opens the report, a delivery report, using a tablet and cannot unzip the file, hence why he wants an uncompressed file. Is it possible to include some form of paramatization that sets first if compression is to be enabled for a particular notification and the size of the allowed attachment. If this is exceeded when the report is generated the email that is sent has an alert that the file size limit is exceeded and the file is not attached.

Just a thought.

Good news alek, we have one very non tech client where the owner is the only user access and he doesn't understand zip files.

Even after showing him several times over the past year and downloading the program to unzip, it was too difficult for him, so this will be great for him.

I will go in and change for him now and give him a call to advise!

Cheers,
Alan.
