Experience with POS device, like printer, connected to tracking device

Topic: Experience with POS device, like printer, connected to tracking device

Hi, anybody has experience with POS equipment connected with a tracking device? For our case, we are seeking solution to print last temperate values from up to 4 probes installed in the vehicle. Thanks.

Yes, as those equipment is mostly used in hospitality. For us its a technical device.

In my opinion you should start at this point. I mean look for POS equipment which has an open interface.

Unfortunately I don't have experience with such solutions. But if your equipment have such an interface it would be theoretically possible to use it. For example, if you choose POS equipment based on Android and the manufacturer have such an inteface, then you can fetch temperature from external (bluetooth?) sensors. Or maybe simply from Wialon using SDK.

It is not really an answer to your question, but maybe my fertile imagination would help you to find a solution smile

Bart how are you connecting the POS to the tracker? How are you looking to capture the last temperature the device will send or you will poll? I assume this is for a fuel tanker truck?

It is for cold chain transport, fresh food, ice cream etc.

I am seeking two options.

1) Either polling the unit by the printer and get the latest temperature values - the tracker need to support output and the printer the polling
Sample of a POS printer is the Movotek MIL300.

2) Wialon sends SMS to printer when unit is in geo-fence. SMS contains the latest sensor values.

Both options could work if Movotek SDK can:
1) fetch information from Wialon
OR
2) receive and process SMS

I think it is very probable that at least the second option is implemented.

But ... the SDK of Movotek is written in C, and it can be a problem. Maybe a POS with a Java interface would be a better choice?

Thanks for helping me out. We decided to opt for the second option, which is indeed available in Wialon. It requires an SMS printer, which is available from Movotek and Goodcom.

Re: Experience with POS device, like printer, connected to tracking device

why not using a simple epson compatible termoprinter (typical pos hardware) which is connected via RS232 to a gps tracker which has a serial connection like the Galileosky or Teltonika or BCE or GoSafe or or or hardware.

you should look for a HW which has a transparent serial connection. than you send automatic commands via gprs which included the values of the sensors.

for example have a button which sends a "user pressed button" to Wialon, than create a notification which sends a custom_msg to the printer via gprs. NO SMS costs! only thing: device should be always online..

Wolf.

p.s. hardware gurus in gurtam are very very helpful in implementing additional commands of your choosed hardware if they is common and good :-))

I want to argue that every printer is a POS, but frankly, the star printers I need to maintain were 100 percent solid rock, even the one that still works with a Pina colada.
As someone else has said, star appears quite physically reliable and not difficult to maintain/use/etc.
As for printer support at printer how, it relies on the POS system you try to include, while I have had several results based on the POS system and the software.
