Better Visibility in OTA Transfers

Тема: Better Visibility in OTA Transfers

I would like to see better reporting on what is happening when we initiate a firmware or configuration upload from Wialon. At the moment we get a message via the drivers message that the upload has started then we will either get a success or fail message ....nothing in between. This makes it very difficult to understand where a problem may be if the upload fails.

What I would like is that we can actually see what is happening from the server side on the packets that the server is sending to the device. So if it is going to send an updated firmware and it is broken down into say 130 packets we can see the packet status eg 20 of 130 uploaded. This is standard information that is there during any file transfer. Many of the applications that we use for OTA updating of other devices, not GPS device have this visibility.

What do others think?

Better Visibility in OTA Transfers

Re: Better Visibility in OTA Transfers

I understand from support that the SDK can be used here is the response from support

But if you have a proposal of the new functionality - be free to post it on forum.gurtam.com For now there is no such specific method to get the communication statuses during the uploading firmware. I suppose with SDK you can create and execute a command, but how to get the communication data you should decide with your own code. Maybe our developers can help you with the solution, but they are working with clients on forum only.

Have the Guratam developers any suggestions on how we can capture the status of the data packets being loaded to the device?

Re: Better Visibility in OTA Transfers

JohnG, unfortunately, getting this information is impossible with current mechanism of command execution. When command is sent, it may be enqueued, so we don't know when it is to be actually executed. Besides, firmware files are uploaded to the device and not to the server, so it's really tricky to get relevant feedback from that side.
