Plant Equipment - Buckets

Topic: Plant Equipment - Buckets

Had a very interesting query from a large dry hire plant equipment company.

Has anyone got or know of a solution that can allow plant equipment companies manage equipment such as the buckets and attachments like them.

Theft is rife we are told and these items can be very costly. Obviously to achieve in tracking it it would require battery powered device but am not sure how it would be mounted.

I thought it might be work putting it out there as theft of these items and others like it would not be unique to Australia.

Has anyone got a suggestion?

I would suggest you need the same solution as in every relatively big supermarket.

2 totally different things kalaschnikow, supermarkets are purely for theft. This requirement is not too unlike trailer or container tracking/management.

The client had come across a company in the USA 18 months ago with a solution for specific for this. We have not been able to find who the company is and he cannot remember.

Re: Plant Equipment - Buckets

There are a number of solutions that can be used based on either RFID or WiFi. I am assuming that they are looking to protect the items from being stolen from a storage yard. Or are the items being stolen off the actual equipment?

For the storage yard the tag(active or passive) would be attached to the equipment item and then you would have a two level process for the monitoring. The first phase monitors the item being in the read range of a reader and if the item goes out of the read range an alert is sent. The second uses readers at "Chock Points" such as entry and exit gates to capture movement and event trigger the capture of an image of the vehicle carrying the equipment.

We have success with this type of item tracking. We use 3 years Battery with complete sealed GPS devise.  Welded to the buckets with poly carbonate  protection to the receiver area only.  It can be done the installation can be costly

Thanks eyeinthesky. I will have another chat with the clients seeking a solution.

As for installing, they have the capability do this themselves as I had suggested something similar previously.

Re: Plant Equipment - Buckets

Karma,  The units i recommend for the buckets is the AS1 . It has a high temp threshold. metal in the Australian sun can get quite close to 90C
Our previous tests at the  extreme reach about 80 C.  The AS1 from Atrack appears to handle the high temps. We normally set the  units to acquire coordinates at 6am every morning. battery will last for 3 years.  perfect for customers like these.

As for the install, welders need to insert - heat sink material around the devise.    hope this is of some help to you.
