Re: Mobile phones for GPS tracking

Hi,

typically you have a cradle where the driver plug his smartphone in and connects the charger cable.
you dont plan to install a fixed smartphone or? that will never run stable for a long time!

Hi,
Actually I am planning to install fixed smartphone, as it is impossible to import GPS tracker devices into my country. I have no other choice.
Why do you think it not run stable for a long term?

Regards

Re: Mobile phones for GPS tracking

Hi Akmurad,

problem with standard android smartphones is the following:
- no gprs/3G connection lasts for ever. that means that the algorithm of "re-connecting" must work perfect. but i dont know any smartphone (even no Apple device) which you can have online for weeks/months without restarting / going to airplane mode and back to online mode.
So if you mount fixed smartphone into the car/truck and dont want that the driver is regulary restarting the device you will not be very happy.
of cause there are special hardware devices which has hardware watchdog but i think if you are not allow to import gps tracker into your country you will be for sure not allowed to import that hardware :-)

by the way, i just looked for a software which can work as a watchdog timer for dataconnection, you should check this one:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/deta … &hl=de

next point in my eyes is the microusb connector which is used typical at smartphones...
you need to fix it somehow otherwise the vibrations from driving will slowly move it out of the connector.

in which country are you located that its impossible to import gps tracking devices? in North Korea?

Re: Mobile phones for GPS tracking

We are looking at using Mobile phones in cradles as an alternative to dedicated GPS devices. We are testing Android based phones and using GPS tag as the interface application and in basic testing they appear to be operating OK. Rebooting the phone at certain intervals as suggested by Wolf is a good idea and as an alternative look at Automateit as an application for controlling various events on the phone. We restart the phone every day just to clear the cache. There is a free version and a paid version US$1.99.

We have vibration tested the microusb connector is some very rough conditions and have had no issues with it comming our of the device. If you want to be sure use some hot melt glue to lock it in place.

Nice List...

For "heavy usage" i would use a ruggedized unit like Morotola Defy or some of the china closes...
IPX7 Waterproof etc.

you should stop spamming the forum...

if you want to be accepted as a serious HW Partner you should provide
- what difference you provide in service, hw quality, warranty, exchange programm, free samples!
- technical support contacts
- rough prices for your favorite models
- how far your products are fully implemented in Wialon
and so on and so on.

Posts like "we are No.1" nobody reads and you will have much less success here.
