Tracking devices with GSM + Satellite module

Iridium: SBD = Short Burst Data, but with two way = device knows if message was received by server.
SBD is limited and there are rules from Iridium how often you may send data.

Globalstar: simplex short burst data where device tries to send 3x in 20 minutes the message. in my eyes not for emergency comm because you have no feedback.

Inmarsat: they have a gprs service and you can use it just as you like. Price per MB is at round about 20 USD, minimum increment as i remember 100KB, so each message costs you 2 USD (thats the reason why nobody use it for tracking)

Thuraya: in your region the system with the lowest costs. MB=round about 3 USD, minimum increment 100Kbyte. So costs per message = 0,3 USD

I dont know any Thuraya Tracker.

Best system in my eyes still Iridium based systems. They are just setting up new sattelites. Its backed by US government, even on international ships mandantory so they will survive for longer.

Globalstar is cheap and always just before bankrupcy.

P.S. if you want nearly real time tracking based on sattelites you need to take something like that:

of cause its just the modem and you need your tracker to communicate with that.
Ask Carlos from flexgps.net to help you with implementation, He has some experience with such projects.

I think skywave changed something, as i remember they always used Iridium and no switched to Inmarsat new Data Sattelite

We saw a presentation of them in Minsk and talked with them, very innovative protocolls and HW.
Already implemented in the Wialon.
