we want to enter in a project for container tracking the device must be able to track the container and also have some kind of lock to advice if the doors are opened during transportation, wanted to ask you all if you know of any device that will perform this function . it must be battery operated for at least 5 days

i am totaly frustrated in finding an reliable and stable working Asset Tracker. Maybe you can recomend me one?
- Wonderproud M7: Sleep mode sucks and the Movement Sensor sometimes like to work and sometimes not. Not really stable working solution.
- Teltonika AT1000: has gps reception problems and also like to work sometimes and sometimes not. The AT1000 is not anymore available from Teltonika (maybe they understood that the device sucks).
- Quecklink GL505: From two! Testdevices we received both devices broken after one week. Documentation sucks, Support sucks (they requested us to send the first device back and does not send a new one back, i mean, seems that they are not in need of new customers).
- Gosafe G626: Firmware totaly unstable and you really need good nervs to configure the device (extremly bad documentation).
I know, there is our friends from Israel (Pointer) but their device is so expensive that our typical customer is not willing to pay for it.
So we have the nice situation that there is a huge demand but no stable working hardware i know :-(

depends on model, cheapers is under 80 usd no big features but stability is very good
already Integrated with wialon
insurance, 5000 in other platform, less than 300 in wialon hosting
Cal Amp seem very very reliable devices. I am trying to configure a TTU700 5 year battery!? thanks to small_gprs he has just sent programming script, I will test this week.
Also Enfora have an asset tag device with 1 year battery....
Regarding Quecklink GL505.
Could be great product but :
When it sleeps every thing is ok.
When in move it has fix interval of 5min and more, not less.
The problem is that when it suppose to sleep again it keeps sending messages and the battery ends after 2-3 weeks instead 3 years.
In short words: software problems. can be fixed if Queclink will do it.
As Asset Tracker i use their GL-200 with my ext 3.6AH battery. Total of 5AH.
Works 45 days , 30 min movment time/day.
On move it gives 15sec fix interval - great for real time tracking .
Great product , well supported by Gurtam.

I can confirm Cal Amp TTU710 device very good. I am testing with Gurtam system now and very good results.
may be off the wall but what about a Teltonika GH3000 with an added small solar panel and IP67 case
Calamp support seems to be shi*.
I remember that i requested some infos but never got an answer. So no device for us.
I am testing at the moment HW from Kingneed (chinese!) but since 2 months the device is in my car, on my desk, back in car and configured to send when device is moving. So movement sensor is on (which costs realy a lot of power) and battery still 50% full (after two months).
It has strong mangnets, a IPx56 case (should be ipx7 but i dont trust), a 15400 maH LiIo battery (beware of transport and shipping, DHL etc. starts to make troubles with transport of LiIon Batterys) and sample price was 134 USD or so...
But Still: really nothing perfect at the market!

Let me build one based on the GH3000 and I will send you some photo's. I have found the GH3000 to be a good device and tested it on mine site where we went from sea level to 4500 meters and it worked very well so components arr good.
Cal Amp TTU710 working great with server. very simple script, reports once every 24 hours.

Regarding Kingneed.
All models use same protocol - Nice.
Tracking is accurate and nice. Long battery time. Good case with strong magnet.
The bad:
SMS commands - No configuration utility. with time you get used to it.
In Gurtam web you get only GPS data. no battery level or other data.
To know battery level you need to send sms command. you can get only 3 levels : High. Mid.Low Big problem.
Regarding:
GH3000.
Works ok , short battery time. old technology.
The bad:
Hard to monitor or set it remotely , practicaly - no way. Big Problem.
GH1202 was perfect model , GH3000 is bad to my opinion.
Better USE Queclink GL200 or GL300 .
The best Asset tracker from all aspects.
For long battery time there is 3.7V input to connect any external battery size.
The GH3000 can be configured using SMS commands but in an asset tracking situation you only be setting the initial configuration. Battery life is dependent upon the send fequency. If additioanl battery time is needed an external battery can be fitted and connected using the standard charging connector.
Monitoring can be done using Wialon as it is a registerd device or via sms

Did you ever saw a Container from less than 10meters?
Just wondering where and how to connect your little personal tracker onto a container?
How about IP67? 96h Standby time? Other mentioned HW here in this threat can be used for many months or years without need to be recharged.
How about temperatures below 0 deg? Do you guaranty working system below -20deg?
and so on and so on....

This post is great its been going for a year and a half now. there is one calamp ATU-620 registered with wialon, I wonder who it is! I am a little curious about this product, this device is interesting because it uses AA batteries.
I fell your pain about the stability of devices! we don't want anything trick, just a reliable, stable way of recieving a one GPS point every 24 hours for at least one year.
am also looking at the TTU-700 series for possible testing thanks to you guys! it seems the TTU-700 is a very well accepted and reliable unit.
I hope to have some more hardware to work with soon!

for us "european" and eastern european its hard to get calamp HW as their sales is "a bit focused" to US market.
But we are still looking for an reliable asset tracker which does not cost hundreds :-))

we've been testing Calamp OBD device for a couple of months, it seemed us a really good and reliable device with their own philosophy in terms of OBD-data capturing, but works good despite a really complicated configuration tool tailored for true engineers mostly, anyway...
As for their policy of cooperation i would agree with you that they have some specific way of operating, nevertheless we managed to get some direct contacts of their european entity, so if you need to speed up their reaction you can poke me in Skype and we could try to make the process more effective. Last time they had some growth in our platform so they are supposed to have some interest in that.

We have just ordered a few devices from Pointer for testing. We are testing the 8M Power version asset tracker. It is not too expensive for what it is and does. If you tally up the hours of supporting cheap devices or modified devices, you lose the customer loses and yes he did pay a cheap price, but your reputation and profits drop. There is also a 3 year version. It is waterproof, and can charge when the trailer is connected to the truck. It can last up to 8 months reporting once a day and when hooked to power -it tracks normally like a normal tracker. It has tamper switch and can be permanently or mounted using magnetic mount- 68 kg magnet strength. It has a good size ratio.
I have been looking around a good while now and decided to test this. It has everything you need. You get what you pay for. We just want to install and forget.
We will let you know how it goes.

hey wolf, we have a supplier for calamp I am talking to down here at the moment, about there products, what they offer is intriguing. I have been working with a AS-1 from atrack when i can, i am currently trying to establish if i am an idiot, or if the device can sense its working with one. 
either way, i agree fully, its a long road to finding the perfect device! going to have a look at some of the suggestions here as well, all i want is one point a day for one year on a battery, reliable, and reasonable $, its weird how this can be elusive goal

We are evaluation a locking solution for containers, it clips onto the door locking mechanism thus securing the doors. The tracking device, in this case a Tramigo T23 Magnum, is inserted into the lock before the lock is closed and locked. I think we could use any tracker that can fit in the opening. The tracking device then captures movement, location, tampering etc. The lock is coming from a South African company Leopard Lock. Will update the forum once we have some test details and price indication.
Hi, we do provide container tracking system. The tracker is integrated in the container door lock as one device. If the lock/seal is broken a message will triggered within Gurtam.

Most customers want the smallest units, with the longest battery life and as many data/sensor info as possible, and ofcourse as cheap as possible .
When he doesnt want to use the Power from the truck I would suggest a long Power Cable, a very very long Power cable,
This would be my solution/idea

Option is to adapt a standard small GPS to use a lighter socket connection. Or place it in a box with an extended battery again this can connect to the lighter socket.

I came back to play with GL505 from Queclink.
Today the new versions do work very well.
I don't let it go to Deep sleep (3 years )
I prefer to have continues control by long TCP.
In rest mode the interval is 1 day.
When in move interval is 5min/60min can be set from web/application.
I can ask it to get position now from web/application.
Very accurate, reliable, good docs.
Water proof IPX7 .
Looks I am going to enjoy it.
Queclink-Gurtam = leading solution.

Looking for a low cost asset battery powered tracking unit, needs three to five year battery life only neees to report its location once a week. Operating enviroment means units need to be more or less throw away when battery flat or unit damaged, we have a target price of 30$ to 35$ per unit. Anyone know of a unit that fits the requirement or any manufacturers who have a unit please get in touch, initial order is 200 units.

There are some fine points related to tracking freight containers, so I advice you to search for Container ELectronic Seal that was designed for such applications.
There are limited number of manufacturers and I guess you will mine them quickly.

In austria there's a company which does have solar/battery powered Devices, but i don't know if they mcan be configured to be used with wialon.

I was talking this week with Alexander from cGuard about their Beacon.
It sounded like a good option. We will look to getting one to test at some point, if you end up testing one yourself before we have chance please let me know your thoughts.

Have seen a novel solution to this challenge, although it may not appeal to all - particularly if you require a bulk number of units.
1. Find a small personal or asset tracker, that is very feature rich (3.7V, A/GPS performance, Wi-Fi tracking, 3-axis accelerometer, sensors, light, temperature, etc.).
2. Pull it apart!
3. Source a Qi charger kit (receiver and transmitter), a large capacity Li-ion pack (10-20Ah, in parallel if required?), 2 large neodymium magnets, external GPS antenna (if supported by your tracker).
4. Assemble Qi receiver into Li-ion pack, supply power & SIM to the tracker, place magnets and ext GPS antenna in a row - and - heat shrink it all together - similar to this : https://goo.gl/images/M92Qod

We are currently working on the option to forward the tracking data to Wialon.
The tracker has battery, accumulator and solar. Adding BLE Sensors is possible.

Please understand that i do not name the manufactorer before the product is ready to sue with Wialon.

I have experience using spytec, its battery life is good, 4G LTE coverage, and usually can run for two weeks. Although most people use it as a car tracker, in fact, I think it is also suitable for tracking containers or individuals.
